FAQ Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Below are the most commonly asked questions. Can't find your answer? Get in touch and we'll help you out.

How long is the program?

Our program is two years (22 months). Upon graduation, you are eligible to write the CCHPBC board exams to become a Registered Massage Therapist. The diploma can also be applied toward a Bachelor of Health Science degree at TRU.

Can I apply before completing all prerequisites?

Yes — the sooner the better! As long as all prerequisites are completed before your start date, you are encouraged to apply early. Spaces fill up fast and early applicants get priority.

Is the college accredited?

Yes. OV College is in full compliance with CCHPBC, CMTCA, and PTIRU curriculum and accreditation requirements. We were the first school in Canada to receive designation under the CMTCA national accreditation standards — with a perfect 100% score.

Are students eligible for student loans?

Yes. StudentAid BC provides eligible students with loans, grants, bursaries, and scholarships. Students may also be eligible for Employment Insurance funding programs. Visit studentaidbc.ca to apply.

Can I visit the college or sit in on classes?

Absolutely. Call us at 250-558-3718 to set up a visit. We'd love to give you a tour, let you drop into classes, answer your questions, and set up a complimentary massage in the student clinic. You can even sign up as a Student-for-a-Day.

How busy will I be as a student?

The program is a full-time, heavy load. Classes run 8:30 am to 4:00 pm Monday–Friday. You should expect approximately 3 hours of homework per day. Student clinic runs 18 weeks in Year 1 Term 2, with one 4-hour evening or weekend shift per week, plus a couple of shadow shifts in Term 1. Year 2 includes outreach practicum 1–2 days per week.

Is it reasonable to work part-time while attending?

We don't recommend working during Terms 1 and 2 especially — Year 1 is intense. By Term 3 it may be manageable depending on how you're doing academically, and Year 2 tends to be more realistic for balancing work and school. The break between Year 1 and Year 2 is longer specifically to allow students to rest or earn funds before continuing.

Will I need to travel off-campus for practicum?

Yes. Clinical practicum includes both on-site and off-site locations — such as care homes, workplaces, sport and community events. Students are responsible for their own transportation. Locations are generally in the Vernon or Kelowna area.

What is the average cost of housing in Vernon?

Many students share accommodation — with the added benefit of a built-in study partner! Average rental rates: 1-bedroom $1,100–$1,600/mo, 2-bedroom $1,500–$2,400/mo, 3-4 bedroom $1,750+/mo. See our Student Life page for accommodation listings.

How many intakes do you have per year?

We have two intakes each year — January and September. You can apply for either intake, and applying early is strongly encouraged as spaces are limited.
